I need some advice from the carp fishermen on how to catch a carp. I went fishin in a small creek tonight and in one area before a big log jam there were praobably 20-30 carp just sitting there together near the surface..some of them looked like 20+ lbs and there were 3 different species. There were common's and it looked like a few big grass carp, and some other smaller carp that i first thought were drum. I was using some mulberry carp bait with no sinker under a bobber about 8" deep and it was right in front of their face for about 15 minutes and they acted like it wasnt there, they just swam right past it.. and they wouldnt take a nightcrawler either.. I just want someone to tell me what they would try in my situation... or tell me how you catch carp - like what bait, hook, rig, how long do you wait for a bite, etc. I have landed 2 carp before and they were both snagged. I never can get one to bite when i want to, however sometimes in the white river i will hook into one on my fly rod or hook one while fishin for bluegill with worms.

I always use canned sweet corn for bait and I use the same size hooks that use for bluegill fishing since they have such small mouths. I tie the hook on and place one fairly small split shot about 2-3' above the hook and let it sit on the bottom. Should work well for your situation.

When I go carp fishing, I usually go for common carp and use wheaties cereal. Grab a handful, dip it in the water and crush it in you hand until it is like a chunky or gritty play-do. Pinch off a piece big enough to put on a small treble hook and enough to just barely cover all barbs on the hook. No weight, and chum the water up a little with a few small wheatie balls. Bring needle nose pliers to take them off the hook. They fight like crazy so use fairly strong line. Grass carp I've caught on small pieces of banana peels, about 1/4 inch square piece. Good luck, let us see what you catch.
