We finally got out for some striped bass fishing today. The plan was to fish Raccoon Lake, but after hearing about the flooding going on up there, we headed east to Lake Monroe. We got there about 6am and launched at the Sugar Creek ramp by the dam. The water is pretty high at Monroe too, it was way up the ramp and the walkway to the dock was under waist deep water. Sun coming up over Lake Monroe. It was a beautiful morning, but HOT even as we were loading the boat at 4:30. We were trolling umbrella rigs, crankbaits, and 3-way swivel rigs with a deep running crankbait and STORM curly tail minnows. About 8am we caught this monster yellow bass on a crankbait that was bigger than he was! Right after I reeled that one in, this one nailed one of the 3-way swivel rigs. He ate the 3" curly tail and weighed just under 5lbs. We quit at around 10, it was just too darn HOT! I fried him up for supper this evening and we all thought it was pretty good. I just trimmed the red out of the filet. That one fish was enough for our family of 4. Thanks Dad for taking us out!

Quality at Raccoon, Quantity at Monroe is what they tell me. I tolled 7 hours at the coon and managed one Striper. One day at Monroe I trolled 4 hours and had three decent wipers. But then again Sunday evening I trolled Monroe 4 hours to get skunked too! Nothing is more exciting than hearing the clickers going as them dudes are taking drag! Give me a call the next time you head out for wipers or stripers. We will meet you on the lake. 765-792-0144 Eric Enk
