Opochtli and me are gonna take the kayaks over to West Shovel Lake around 2 this afternoon if anyone would like to join us. That's the pit where Chase and me got into some decent gills and crappie last September. Hoping it's even better in the spring.

Well, it was a slow start, but we finally found 'em! We started out where Chase and me were catching them late last summer and only managed a couple small gills that I caught on my "go to" rooster tail. The wind moved us to the shallow end of the lake and that's where we found the decent gills and crappie. I was getting a little frustrated because Tony had already caught 1 crappie and had a good one get off at the yak and I hadn't caught one yet. I tied on the same road runner that I caught my first ever 2 pound plus crappie with in January and finally hooked up. After catching several gills, redear, and crappie, Tony switched to bass fishing and caught some chunky ones. The bass look like they eat good in this pit and I bet there's some big ones in there. I tried some trolling on the way back to the ramp. Had rods sticking straight out on both sides and the jigs a few feet down. I figured the paddling would keep the fish from biting, but I ended up catching 2 crappie and a nice bluegill by the time I reached the ramp. Gonna have to give this another try. It was nice to meet you Tony and I look forward to fishing with you again!

Had a good time out there! Kayak fishing is always better with a friend. Let's do it again soon.

Dang, now you are going to have to make I spider rig for the yak since the trolling worked alright
