This is Officer Vanhook of the Rockville Police Department with his 39lb 40in Striper caught out of Raccoon Lake. If he turned it in it should be a State Record I believe.

Troy if you have a boat, we have been slaying the cats up there also. My buddies have revived an old technique they learned off of a Guide in SC last year. They brought it up here and it brings limits to whatever lake you apply. I will teach ya. They aren't fans of video cameras, but don't mind stills. I am gonna sneak the wifes cameras up there tomorrow and take some pics of the action.

I read a post a while back where a guy was crappie fishing at Raccoon with minnows and couldn't keep the "darn" channel cats off his line! We could take my Mom and Dad's boat. Is this night-time or day fishing?

I read a post a while back where a guy was crappie fishing at Raccoon with minnows and couldn't keep the "darn" channel cats off his line! We could take my Mom and Dad's boat. Is this night-time or day fishing? I am sure it would work anytime of the day, today we fished from sunup till 2PM the water is dropping quick and I think that kept the bite low because we usually limit by 10am. Didn't have much size to em today and the bite was slow but we did catch some all channels still haven't found the blues or flatheads yet. These were in 10ft of water where last week they were in 30ft. Guess they are moving up to spawn. Surface water was at 82 degrees F when we left. Here is the days biggest, 10lbs The final mess And some other random cell pics, didn't take the wifes camera I woke up late and was in a hurry to get out of the house. I know this is a hijack of this thread, but the rig is simple, 5/8oz carolina weight-------barrel swivel-----1.5foot----float-----foot----4/0 circle hook. You wanna keep your drift speed low, between 1 and 2 mph is best but we have gone up to 4 with some luck. You would think going through the trash we do that you would get hung up and you don't at all. Your pole will bend to the water but it will spring back up, if not just a quick yank and it slides off. The hook never touches bottom so it is just the weight hanging up. We have been using fresh caught cut shad. But I am sure other stuff will work we just use what the lake gives us. Sorry about the pics, they are turned upright in photobucket and evidently that don't carry over to the forums.

From Friday's edition of the Daily Clintonian; New state record
Jon VanHook (left) and Shay Vandivier are pictured with a record-setting striped bass they caught at Raccoon Lake Tuesday. The bass measured 42 1/4 inches long with a girth of 30 inches and weighed 39 pounds, 8 ounces, which has been confirmed as a new state record.
