With this cold snap moving in, there might be a few tips in this series that could help. BTW...anyone ever eat muskrat? This guy mentions eating them and I was watching that "Sasquatch" guy on the Outdoor Channel and he said one of his favorite meals was muskrat backstraps. Part 1 - LocationPart 2 - The SetsPart 3 - Checking the Traps

Just seen the title of this and it brought memories of getting back to the car after running a line and holding my hand over the defroster vent. Something about breaking ice to pull a rat out that just screams cold. I wouldn't replace those memories for anything though.

Thats a great watch, troy! Should have ample oppurtunity for ice trapping this year. I had some muskrat once, i remember not caring for it, but it was........pretty well done. I'd like to try it again though!

I've never had it but, ironically, I was reading an article the other day where a guy says "of all the wild game I've had in my life, beaver is #1 followed closely by muskrat . I'm not sure what to think of it

Anyone try any of this? One time when we had a thin ice and I was able to find some bubble trails and catch some rats. But the way our dang ice is it seems to get slush in it and hard to make bubbles? I know one hut that I know they're using! but theres not a single "bubble trail" I've been punching holes in them and putting traps inside with little success. The ice now might be a little better. But you have to go around and clear snow to see into the ice! I just prefer the lake would stay open!

I also tried some baited sets around huts. All my 110's were set off but with nothing in them?
