My brother in-law's a farmer up in Clay County and there's a pond on one of his recently acquired properties and he invited the boys and me to check it out to see if anything's in it. Chase had an archery meet this evening so Colton and me went over to check it out. It was a lot bigger than it had looked from the road... As soon as we walked up several bass and gills took off and as soon as I cast a worm out I caught this dandy... Colt cast a crappie thumper jig out and caught this just under 14" bass... I caught a bass about the same size on a chatter bait and we caught several in the 12" range on various lures. What really impressed me though was the size of the bluegill. I was surprised to find them spawning in 2 different spots and we didn't even check the shallow end of the pond. Hard to see in the pic, but there was some real nice ones on all the nests... I'm guessing that the cooler temps later this week will chase them back into deeper water. I started casting the crappie thumper in the dam area looking for crappie and started catching "bull-gills" on almost every cast! Colt with a nice one caught on a 1/32oz rooster tail... We were just fun fishing this evening, but I'm gonna try and get the boys up there this weekend with the video camera and see if we can catch a mess. I'll have to let my b-i-l know that there's definitely something in there!

Those are some monster gills. Hopefully there is some hog bass too. Its always great to have a new private pond to fish. Those under fished farm ponds can hold some real big fish.

Any chance that baby will freeze up this next winter? lol That's exactly what Colton and me we're talking about when we were there. That would be an AWESOME little ice fishing hole. I haven't talked to him yet....but the wife was saying last night that the b-i-l is thinking about filling it in!

That would be terrible if he filled it in. Hopefully he decides not to.

Next time I'm down there I'll be more than happy to help you clean the fish out of there before it gets filled in!
